Unstable Version 1.1 Build 3.5 is Now Available! I Apologize for the Build 3 Deletion, but I Need to Say That It's for the Best.
Hello, my people!
Unstable build 3.5 is out right now with new changes to the game! This mod went through some serious changes to the game that might eventually change Baldi's Basics! Remember, these are not official "game-breaking" changes that the original developer makes to the original game, but however I do make them! Now, as long as this is designed to be a long-term mod, I need to keep it updated to the latest version of Unity and install Visual Studio 2026 Insiders when I free up space on my mom's old Windows 11 computer (She actually let me use it! If not, I would have needed to get a Windows 11 computer for Christmas).
Also, one important thing I'd like to discuss about is the vulnerability issue that occurred in most games. This was an issue beyond everyone's control. Even I wasn't able to fix it. Do you know why? Take a guess.
The issue had to do with the Unity application.
You may have a lot of questions about that, but the best place to go for any questions you have is Unity's FAQ. If you have any, please go to their page.
With that said, this update involves input system changes, including new button pressing, buttons actually being subscribed to, the updated button movement system (such as 1D Axis and 2D Vector), the updated scrolling button, and more. It also fixes an unknown principal caption typo and maybe also other things I forgot to mention were in the build's changelog because of how long unstable build 3 was deleted for.
Among those changes, here is the full changelog:
Changes & Additions
- Implemented Unity's Input System Package, which replaces the old Input Manager. In the future I will use this input system to create a Control Mapper which will be responsible for assigning a button subscription only once, until you unsubscribe from it (ideally, not in reality!).
- Temporarily removed selection num-keys.
- Added the ability to look around among the X-Axis. Not to be confused with the Y-Axis, which is the axis that the player in Baldi's Basics uses to look around among. This is actually a big change because it changes the way cameras can see and interact with everything. However, note that the look up value will clamp between two values since you are not supposed to over-rotate to look at objects the way you're not supposed to.
- Changed the controls back to W.A.S.D since A.D.B.F was a test for previous versions.
- Principal now unlocks, then opens, then shuts and locks office doors.
- Updated Unity to 6000.2.6f2. The previous upgrade (6000.1.16f1) introduced a lot of new improvements, but did not have the security vulnerability fix, but 6000.2.6f2 did. However, there are still a few issues with this editor ever since I switched. So now, I'm waiting for the full unstable 4 release to be out so I can update Unity again.
- Removed the "silentOpens" variable from DoorScript since it went unused. Was not be used for anything in this project and it never will be.
- Reworked the way freeze time was made out to be so this way Principal of the Thing does not get stuck in his office door for very long since that would have happened if there was not the Principal glitch where he freezes only when he's in the office.
- You are now only supposed to use the mouse if you have a touch-screen, too. Do NOT use the touch-screen, otherwise it glitches.
- Changes to Baldi's movement.
- Changed back the jump rope text.
- Baldi now explains more about this demo if you wait long enough in the main menu. The audio clip had been changed for this.
- Temporarily disabled the Principal, Playtime, and Bully AI so that almost everything is consistent to Arts and Crafters' known issues. Their functionality is in their file, but is not being used at the moment due to a problem. The issue will be listed.
- The normal ending no longer takes place in its own scene. It now takes place in the school.
- Implemented the function "Permanently Locked Doors." Says in the code as "permanentLock". This is a test function that will be used for something I will be making in the future after Plus is done. A preview for BBCRD 2028!
- You can now move a little bit while you jump rope! Now when she annoys you at the wrong time, you might still be able to make it through just in time!
- Changed the test Chaos Mode code.
Fixes
- Fixed a subtitle being a 2D subtitle as a 3D subtitle, specifically the exit sound.
- Fixed a typo in the "Your parents will hear about this one!" subtitle. (Typo: "abour".)
- Fixed the swinging door lock sound not playing.
- Fixed the detention office door unlocking late.
- Fixed Principal's Keys not ever working on locked doors.
- Fixed Principal not getting out of his office after a detention.
- Fixed the back button on the credits screen not working quite right.
- Thanks to the previous Unity upgrade I made, fixed the bug that caused NPCs' interactions with doors to not work.
- You can now actually press "U" to use an item.
- Thanks to this recent Unity upgrade I made, fixed the security vulnerability that existed in previous versions.
Known Issues
- The AI systems do not work.
- Principal sometimes keeps the door unlocked.
- The door does not shut if the door gets locked.
- Sometimes Playtime can go inside the player's collider during the whole jump-rope mode session.
- Some audio does not stop or pause.
- Prefabs that are instantiated by the player do not destroy if the player wins the game.
- The secret ending is STILL not finished.
- The design of the pause screen hasn't been... "figured out."
- Audio is not propagated.
- The secret ending does not save your items.
- The inventory does not consistently update the selected item slot if people modify the array list for the items in the inventory.
- The hang of the learn music (Everybody's Favorite Subject) is not correct.
- The You Can Think Pad does not scale up and down constantly. It just stays the same size.
- The You Can Think Pad input does not work. Click off, and you have to answer a question on the current notebook wrong. Ignore this on the 3rd problem.
